《Saturday Night Fever》

Balalaika once more

《Mr. and Mrs. Smith》

Offer

Emmy called by 3pm something, I was granted the offer! How come?! Really felt surprised. Remuneration package was pretty good, what attracted me most was 22 days AL ... I could go for long trip from time to time then!

She told me that other offers were pretty confirmed as well, so I gotta consider whether I'd like to stick with internal audit or change to operations position. It's a dilemma. I was sure I could handle IA well, but got no confidence to perform well in operations at all. However, it's really a valuable opportunity since I might not be able to get another offer for operations of similar remuneration package.

Called back Emmy finally to accept the offer by 5pm. I didn't know whether I'd be on the right track, but what on my mind was that I could always switch back to IA if I'm not comfortable with operations, but it'd be hard for me to change from IA to operations in future.

So, starting from 11 Jul 2005, I'll be with Treasury Service Department of HSBC CIBM Section. A bit risky indeed, as I'll be a brand new starter in the field. Was it an appropriate decision? Who knows?

Running race in the great morning

Woke up at 6am something to catch up with the interview at 8am, so tired indeed >,< The assistant HR manager was named Brenda, a nice lady with little smile. She's late. Didn't talk to her for long since I gotta leave before 8.30am in order to catch up the MTR from Olympic to Central.

Once stepping out from the HSBC Tower, I rushed to MTR station and was just in time to catch up a MTR before its doors closed. Took off the coat of my suit, I changed to the black cardigan and had the coat folded properly before putting it into my bag. Started running through the Hong Kong and Central stations once got off the MTR, it's 8.48am when I reached the escalator up the way to Exit J. Kept running up staircases besides the BOC Tower, I saw ICBC Tower right in front. Ran Ran Ran ... finally arrived on the 34/F and signed the timesheet right outside my boss's room. So lucky, I made it, didn't get late! *,*

HR interview confirmation

Got call from Emmy once again. So surprised that her client still wanted me going to HR interview for final confirmation. I really got no answer correct regarding their operations, what're on their minds indeed??? Anyway, I treasured this opportunity. I'll go for it, though it's scheduled at 8 tomorrow morning @_@

Repeat *

Spiderman

HK 'Spiderman' causes traffic chaos with Tiananmen protest

First posted 04:25am (Mla time) June 04, 2005 by Agence France-Presse

HONG KONG -- A protester dressed as the comic book character Spiderman climbed to the top of a giant TV screen on a building at the heart of Hong Kong's financial district Friday in a protest marking the anniversary of the 1989 Tiananmen crackdown.

Matt Pearce, an activist with International Action, which campaigns against social injustice in the former British colony, used a ladder to mount the public television before rolling down a massive yellow banner with the message "Justice Must Prevail. Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere."

"There is no excuse for killing unarmed, innocent students staging a peaceful demonstration," he said in a statement.

"We believe the Beijing government should publicly admit what happened on June 4, 1989, apologize and pay compensation to the families of victims," he said in the run-up to the 16th anniversary on Saturday.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of unarmed students and demonstrators were gunned down in central Beijing when tanks were sent in to end the six-week long protests. Beijing has refused to acknowledge the massacre.

Pearce's protest caused traffic chaos in the city during rush hour at lunch time with nearly 100 police officers and firemen as well as an ambulance rushing to the scene, blocking the busy main road in the area.

They also inflated a massive mattress on the ground.

Pearce stayed up for nearly two hours before two firemen persuaded him to come down and then arrested him.

Meeting with Ronnie and Rowena

Interview again. It's an internal audit position this time, so I didn't have any preparation at all =P Anyway, so far so good. In contrast to the interview last night, I got everything correct tonight. To certain extent, I couldn't have got anything wrong, since we only discussed about some concepts of audits and work done by internal auditor, especially on credit risk aspects.

Didn't really interested in this position, just see how would it be going on.

Meeting with Geoffrey and Trevor

It's the first time for me to break into the HSBC Main Building in the evening. After getting through the security checking point, I reached the 15/F there and asked for Trevor. The receptionist showed me the way to 17/F. Those elevators were operated automatically when there's someone approaching them, so high tech! Seems like I was visiting a playground rather than going to interview =P

Finally I arrived at the floor for the investment banking section. Looked so cool, seemed like the floor was made up by a number of glass rooms which were covered up by louvre-boards. I tried to peek through the glass and, of course, saw nothing. Someone passed by when I peeked ... so embarrassing >,<

Had meetings with Geoffrey and Trevor, each for more than an hour. I got no answer correct!!! Haha ... I told them frankly that I know nothing about Treasury Operations. Though they indeed wanna seek for someone with analytical mind only, I didn't expect that they would be interested in candidate who was totally ignorant with their daily operations ... Haha *,*

When I escaped from the HSBC Main Building, it's already 8.38pm. I haven't been staying so late at Central for long! I rushed into the MTR station at once and took the first train home --- I was very HUNGRY!!!!!

Promotion dinner
